Dance Prix Indonesia 2016


Jakarta, 16-17 April 2016 Since its inaugural last year, Dance Prix Indonesia continues to strive to be the most prestigious ballet and contemporary dance competition in the nation. This year Dance Prix Indonesia is held in the country’s two biggest cities at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta from April 16th – 17th and at Ciputra Hall in Surabaya from April 23rd to 24th. A total of 410 candidates including international participants from Singapore and Malaysia are taking part in Preliminary Round on April 16th and 23rd after which selected finalists will compete on April 17th and 24th. Ms. Juliana Tanjo, founder and managing director of Dance Prix Indonesia has assembled a distinguished panel of 6 judges from around the world for DPI 2016. The line-up includes Mr. Janek Schergen, Artistic Director of Singapore Dance Theatre; Ms. Nathalie Caris, former Principal Dancer of Het Nationale Ballet and Principal of The Dutch National Ballet Academy; Mr. Brian Yoo, Artistic Director of Universal Ballet; Ms. Jessica Christina, former dancer of T.H.E Dance Company Singapore, Ms. Leticia Foetisch, former principal dancer of Ballet West, Ms. Ong Long, senior teacher at Singapore Ballet Academy. While the jury deliberates during the Jakarta Final on 17th April, the audience will enjoy a short performance by two principal dancers of Singapore Dance Theatre. Li Jie and Nazer Salgado will perform a contemporary choreography and a classical ballet piece. Finalists will compete for scholarships to distinguished ballet schools around the world, trophies and monetary prizes. DPI 2016 scholarship partners are Soki Ballet School (Japan), Ena Ballet Studio (Japan), Universal Ballet (Korea), The Dutch National Ballet Academy (Netherlands), Singapore Dance Theatre, Cheng Ballet (Singapore) and Singapore Ballet Academy.
